In the Beginning

In the Beginning

The private press revival of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, inspired by William Morris’s Kelmscott press, produced work of a quality and beauty to rival anything by the great Renaissance printers.

We have reconstructed a page from the Doves Press Bible of 1909 by Emery Walker and T. Cobden-Sanderson, using Robert Green’s painstaking modern rendering of the Doves Press font. In our version Eric Gill’s Perpetua Titling replaces Edward Johnston's titling calligraphy.
